5 places to grab a coffee in Milton Keynes

Coffee and a cake

Coffee and train travel go hand in hand. Whether you’re hanging around waiting for your next connection, meeting friends straight off the train, or looking for a good place to have a meeting, a cup of coffee is never far from the thoughts of most train travellers.

If you’re planning to travel to Milton Keynes anytime soon, you’re probably going to be looking for some of that warm brown stuff while you’re there. So, whether you’re a flat white fan, a turmeric latte lover or an Americano aficionado, allow us to show you the best places to indulge your addiction. With one exception, we’ve stayed away from the chains – so a couple of them involve a slightly further walk.

For when you need somewhere to talk business

Just over a ten-minute walk away from Milton Keynes station is Fourth & Fifth. Their emphasis is on working with local independent suppliers, and as such their coffee is roasted by the only speciality coffee roaster in the city. They do a delicious breakfast and brunch menu that caters for meat eaters, veggies and vegans alike, offering everything from a full meaty English to a vegan breakfast with sweet potato falafel. Yum!

Mixing metal and wood with pops of colour, the venue has a cool industrial vibe. Jump on a bright yellow stool with your laptops or grab one of the booths for a more intimate meeting.

For when you’ve only got five minutes

When you’re waiting for your next train to arrive, you don’t want to travel far. There are a couple of places to choose from at Milton Keynes station, but AMT Coffee get a special mention because they serve their organic Fairtrade coffee with bio-compostable cups and lids. They also use organic milk, or you can have plant-based milk, such as almond or oat, for no extra charge.

You can also grab a hot breakfast sandwich, wrap or pastry while you’re there, including vegan-friendly apricot croissants and ‘sausage’ rolls.

For when you want ‘serious’ coffee

A favourite with MK locals, Bogota Coffee Co. truly is serious about its coffee. They serve speciality coffee, which is grown and harvested by artisan farmers and you can have it served to you in a latte, espresso, cafetière, by AeroPress - the list goes on. Their Cortado comes highly recommended and they have an array of pastries, cakes and sandwiches if you want something tasty to go with your java.

They have free Wi-Fi and plenty of plugs, so it’s a good place to head with your laptop if you’ve got some work to catch up on. It’s nice and cosy inside, but on a sunny day why not grab one of the seats outside and watch the world go by.

For when you want something healthy

As the name suggests, Peel Juice Bar is famed for its healthy juices and smoothies, but fans of the caffeine alternative are well catered for too, as their coffee is organic, Fairtrade and Rainforest Alliance certified. Health nuts will love their speciality beverages, such as bulletproof coffees, matcha lattes and protein nut iced mochas. Located right in the station, you won’t have to go far to get your caffeine fix.

For when you’re meeting a friend

If you’re stepping off one of the many trains to Milton Keynes for a fun day out with a friend, why not head to the MK Gallery. It’s a 30-minute walk from the station, but this renovated events and exhibition space has plenty to see and once you’ve got your culture on, its bright and airy independent café and bar is the perfect place to while away a few hours over a delicious coffee, and obviously a cake (or two).
