Thoughts from Brighouse Station - Ambassador Antics

Celebrating National Gardening Week

Brighouse Volunteers

The introduction of the Grand Central Ambassador Scheme meant there was an enthusiastic nucleus of people willing to improve the Brighouse Station area and the ‘Friends of Brighouse Station’ group was formed in 2014.

Although the Ambassadors have not been currently on duty on Sundays, many of them have continued to work as a gardening team at Brighouse Station during the last year. They have had lockdown and government restrictions to contend with but have managed to provide superb floral displays throughout 2020 and into 2021.

Currently the winter pansies are flowering profusely and the garden areas are a credit to all the volunteers’ hard work.

Over the last 6 years the team has won both national and local awards and have received many positive comments from rail staff and passengers.Unfortunately this year there were very few passengers, but those who visited the station found it was a pleasant and quiet place to be!

Socially distanced working was a challenge on changeover weekend in October but the work was completed and the results are shown in the photographs.
