He's behind you! A round-up on this year's best UK pantomimes
Soap stars in satin breeches, slapstick comedy and booing at the villains – everyone loves a trip to the panto. Here we have listed our pick of the best pantomimes in town. Oh yes we have!
York
Sleeping Beauty at the Theatre Royal
7th December 2019 to 25th January 2020
The Theatre Royal’s panto is regarded as something of a festive institution and welcomes over 45,000 audience members every year. The panto this year is Sleeping Beauty. We all know the story: It’s going quite well until the evil fairy turns up and ruins everything with her horrible curse. All together now: “Booooo!”
Expect lots of laughs, toe-tapping songs and a feel-good vibe that’s sure to please the whole family.
Don’t wait a hundred years. Book your tickets to York station with Grand Central today.
Milton Keynes
Aladdin at Milton Keynes Theatre
7th December 2019 to 12th January 2020
Milton Keynes becomes a whole new world this Christmas when Aladdin comes to town. Featuring the inimitable Joe Pasquale as Wishee Washee and West End and TV star Lee Mead as Aladdin, get set for a rip-roaring adventure through the streets of Old Peking and on a magic carpet ride.
Sadly you can’t take a magic carpet to Milton Keynes station, but you can get there easily with us!
Blackpool
Peter Pan at the Grand Theatre
6th December 2019 to 5th January 2020
The classic tale of the boy who never grew up is the perfect panto for Blackpool, the glittering seaside town where you can’t help but feel like a little kid. Emmerdale and Heartbeat star Tom Lister is the dastardly Captain Hook, who’s sure to come in for a good booing. He’d better watch out for the crocodile. Is that a tick-tock we hear?
The Grand Theatre is just a ten minute walk away from Blackpool [North] station so why not book your train tickets with Grand Central today?
Sunderland
Cinderella at the Sunderland Empire
13th December 2019 to 5th January 2020
Local lass (and I’m a Celebrity winner and Gogglebox favourite) Scarlett Moffatt, will be waving her magic wand and making Cinderella’s dreams come true in Sunderland this Christmas – let’s just hope those gruesome ugly sisters don’t meddle too much!
Don’t miss this classic panto at the majestic Empire – just a seven-minute walk from Sunderland station.
London
Goldilocks and the Three Bears at the London Palladium
7th December 2019 to 12th January 2020
You’re spoilt for choice for pantos in London, but we’ve picked Goldilocks at the Palladium as it’s one of London’s most famous theatres and just two stops on the Victoria line from London King’s Cross station.
There’s a suitably starry cast, including Paul O’Grady, Julian Clary and Nigel Havers and the story has been relocated to the circus, so prepare to be wowed by jaw-dropping stunts, as well as laughing your socks off at the antics of the three bears. If you’re planning a trip to the capital this Christmas, it would be un-bear-able to miss it!
