What's on in December
For many of us, December is favoured to be the best month of the year! The Christmas markets, the work parties and the late-night shopping fun – there are so many festivities to get involved in!
So, just what does December 2019 have in store for us? Here are our suggestions for some exciting things happening close to our Grand Central train routes next month.
Christmas Under The Canopy
29th November - 22nd December
King’s Cross, London
If you are heading to King’s Cross Station this December, then be sure to swing by to Canopy Market, which will be open every day in the run-up to Christmas.
Each week in December, there will be a different theme, including ceramics, craft beer and kid’s Christmas fun. There will also be carol singers, live jazz, food tastings and workshops, plus a whole host of ethical and sustainable foodie products from local independent producers. You can get your Christmas store cupboard stocked up in time for the big day.
Sankta Lucia – Festival of light
6th December 7.30pm
York Minster, York
Free to attend and always a popular event, this family based, traditional Swedish celebration is one for the calendar. In Sweden, Lucia is one of the most significant traditions in the calendar – a symbolic celebration of light and the start of the Advent season, centred around the bravery and martyrdom of a young Sicilian girl – St Lucy.
The singers wear white and carry candles during this emotion-filled service, which is run in partnership with the York Anglo-Scandinavian Society. Booking is not required but please arrive early as the seats get taken early. Doors open at 7pm.
Beauty and the Beast on Ice
8th – 29th December
Blackpool Pleasure Beach, Blackpool
A tale as old as time. The story of Beauty and Beast is a fairytale classic and one that always seems a bit more magical around the Christmas period. This year the tale will be told on ice at the Blackpool Pleasure Beach Arena - Presented By BIDCA.
Since 2011 BIDCA, Children Helping Children has been a registered charity, and this fantastic event shows the superb talent of their young skaters, who will take part in the show.
This is always a sell out show, so book early. All seats £10. Under 2s Free (must sit on knee).
Keel Square Ice Rink
21st November – 5th January
Keel Square, Sunderland
If you fancy getting your own skates on, then head on over to Sunderland to show off your moves at the outdoor ice rink. Located at Keel Square, you can get festive and practice your triple-spin at the same time at the outdoor rink, which is open until early 2020. Skating aids are also an option, if you find that you need a little assistance on the ice!
Children’s tickets start at just £3 and a family ticket is £25.
