What's on in October?

Everybody loves autumn, the season when the leaves turn yellow, the conkers start to fall, and we can all cosy up on a Saturday night to watch our favourite shows.

With half term looming at the end of October too, we thought we would share a few of the month’s top events with you, in case you need some autumnal inspiration to hop on the train and explore the UK.

Northern Lights at York Minster

24 Oct - 31 Oct 19

Retuning by popular demand, the Northern Lights are back at York Minster this October. This spectacular sound and light show sold out to audiences last summer and is a must-see show in amazing surroundings.

See the Minster’s nave transformed after-dark, with imagery and audio to bring the space to life with a spine-tingling atmosphere. Designed by renowned projectionist Ross Ashton and sound artist Karen Monid, listen to ethereal recordings from the York Minster Choir as you watch in awe at the light displays.

Funds from the events will support the Minster’s 20-year campaign to ensure all of its windows have external glazing to protect them from the elements.

Annie, Live at the Sunderland Empire Theatre

7 – 12 Oct 19

This autumn take the family to experience the heart-warming story of Annie – the brave young orphan who encounters a stroke of luck with a famous billionaire. Featuring Lesley Joseph as the villainous orphan owner Miss Hannigan, this is a feel-good story that every child (and grown up) should see.

Touring directly from the West End, you can watch the magic live in Sunderland’s favourite theatre and sing along to the famous soundtrack of songs, including It’s a Hard-Knock Life and Tomorrow! Hop on the train to Sunderland and guarantee a fantastic night out.

London Oktoberfest 2019

3 – 26 October (Various locations)

Love beer and authentic German food? Fancy dressing up in your best Dirndl or Lederhosen? Sounds like Oktoberfest would be right up your street then!

There are many Oktoberfest events taking place throughout October, but if you are in London, then this official event is the biggest and best in the UK. Taking place in Millwall Park, Canary Wharf, the event features live music, authentic decoration and long tables to dance besides later in the night.

There is even a Halloween Oktoberfest special taking place at Olympia, West Kensington from 24th-26th if you like the thought of combining beer drinking with scary costume wearing.

Ocean Film Festival

Various dates around the UK

Originating from Australia, The Ocean Film Festival World Tour is in the UK throughout various dates in September and October. The vision of the festival is to inspire the world to explore, respect, enjoy and protect our oceans, sharing the best films from around the globe from independent film makers.
