We expect train services to be very busy over the Christmas and New Year period. Grand Central have arranged an additional return service on 22nd December to provide customers with more options and availability. Please see full details below.

There will be no Grand Central services on Christmas Eve (24th December), Christmas Day (25th December) and Boxing Day (26th December). There will be a reduced service on New Years Eve (31st December) and no Grand Central services

  • Friday 22 December - additional return service 

    • 11:36 London Kings Cross to York 
    • 13:54 York to London Kings Cross 

  • Saturday 23 December

    • Due to planned engineering work:
    • The 17:30 Sunderland to London Kings Cross service will not run.

  • Christmas Eve Sunday 24 December

    • Due to planned engineering work between London Kings Cross and Peterborough, no Grand Central services will run.

  • Christmas Day Monday 25 December

    • No service.

  • Boxing Day Tuesday 26 December

    • No service.

  • Wednesday 27 December

    • Due to planned engineering work:

      The 06:46 Sunderland to London Kings Cross will not run.

      The 08:27 London Kings Cross to Sunderland will not run.

      The 11:27 London Kings Cross to Sunderland will not run.

  • Thursday 28 December

    • Running our normal timetable.

  • Friday 29 December

    • Running our normal timetable.

  • Saturday 30 December

    • Due to planned engineering work, trains that usually run to / from Bradford Interchange will be amended to run to / from Halifax. These trains will not call at Brighouse or Mirfield. Replacement buses will run between Halifax and Bradford Interchange.
    • Due to engineering work:
    • The 06:45 Sunderland to London Kings Cross will not run
    • The 11:27 London Kings Cross to Sunderland will not run.

  • New Year’s Eve Sunday 31 December

    • Due to planned engineering work, trains that usually run to / from Bradford Interchange will be amended to run to / from Halifax. These trains will not call at Brighouse or Mirfield. Replacement buses will run between Halifax and Bradford Interchange.
    • The 15:59 Bradford Interchange to London Kings Cross will not run.
    • The 19:27 London Kings Cross to Bradford Interchange will not run.
    • The 14:14 Sunderland to London Kings Cross will not run.
    • The 18:14 Sunderland to London Kings Cross will not run.
    • The 18:23 London Kings Cross to Sunderland will not run.

  • New Year’s Day Monday 1 January 2024

    • No service.

  • Tuesday 2 January 2024

    • The 08:27 London Kings Cross to Sunderland service will not run.

Travelling with Luggage this Christmas

Know your luggage limits

  • For the convenience and safety of all customers, we advise that you bring no more than three items of luggage – a maximum of one suitcase (no bigger than 30x70x90cm), a small carry on bag and a handbag.
  • Please don't exceed these limits as extra items can only be carried if we have space on board and, from March 2024, we will be introducing luggage limits, details to be confirmed.
  • Please remember to make use of the luggage racks, overhead and under seat storage on board our trains. Do not block doorways, aisles and wheelchair spaces.
