Luggage

  • Pack Light

We encourage all customers to travel light as there is limited space on board.

  • Every case has its place

Please remember to make use of the luggage racks, overhead and under seat storage on board our trains. Do not block doorways, aisles and wheelchair spaces. Please note passengers will be asked to remove luggage from seats to allow other passengers to sit down. Seat reservations are not included in the price of your ticket, and will not be honoured if you purchase tickets for luggage or pets as they are not permitted on the seats.

  • Know your Grand Central Luggage Limits

Customers can bring a maximum of 3 items onboard:

1 x suitcase (no bigger than 30x70x90cm)

1 x small carry-on bag

1 x handbag

All luggage is carried in accordance with the National Rail Conditions of Travel.

Please don't exceed these limits, as extra items will only be carried if there is available space onboard.

  • Be considerate

We want everyone to have a safe and comfortable journey.

Luggage spaces on Grand Central trains

Our fleet consists of Class 180 Adelante trains and Voyager 221s, which feature a number of spaces for luggage stowage. You can view diagrams of our trains, including luggage spaces at our seating plan.

Class 180 Adelante luggage spaces:

  • Overhead storage

Overhead storage is available throughout the train in every carriage, suitable for storing small luggage items. These are approximately 19cm tall by 33cm deep, with a curved profile.

Overhead storage

  • Luggage racks

Luggage racks are available at the ends of each carriage and are suitable for large suitcases and other items. These are approximately 54cm wide and 60cm deep. First Class (Coach E) features two, slightly larger and deeper racks.

  • Buggy Storage

Buggies, prams and other foldable items can be stored by the doors in Coach F, behind the bars.

  • Between/behind seats

Some seats feature spaces behind them, or between them and the saloon wall, which may be used for storing luggage.

  • Wheelchair spaces

Coaches E and F contain large spaces at the end of the carriage. These spaces are not to be used for luggage and must be kept clear at all times for wheelchair users. The buggy-storage area is shown to the left of this image.

Cyclists

Cyclists are welcome on board all Grand Central services. Other train operators and transport companies may not take your bike on board. If you are travelling with another train operator or transport company for your trip (check your ticket), please make sure you check their arrangements for travelling with bikes.

Our Grand Central Adelante trains have space for three bikes, two of which can be reserved and one that is available on a first-come, first-served basis.

We can accommodate e-bikes up to 25kg; however, customers should be aware that non-folding cycles are stored vertically, and staff may not be able to assist in lifting heavy items. In addition to this we do not allow the charging of e-bike batteries on our trains.

It’s free to reserve your bike space, but please remember to book your space at least 24 hours in advance. You can reserve a cycle space by calling Customer Relations on 0345 603 4852 (Option 4, then option 1), opening hours are Mon-Fri 9am-5pm. Please ensure you arrive at least 10 minutes before your train is due to depart. Simply head to coach B and display your booking PDF, and the train manager will be happy to help you get your bike on-board.

If you have a folding bike, you can carry these as normal hand luggage. Bikes must be carried in the designated area of the train - we can't carry bikes in aisles or vestibule areas as they can cause an obstruction.

If you are looking for information around Electric mobility scooters, e-scooters or oversized modes of transport please see our dedicated page here.
