Travelling with Children
Planning a day out with the kids? Travelling by train with children doesn't have to be a daunting prospect. Here's a list of useful information if you're travelling with Grand Central.
Do I need to pay for my child's ticket?
Children under the age of 5 travel for free with a fare paying adult, however they will not be allocated a seat so may have to sit on your knee if the train is busy. If you want to ensure they have a seat of their own, you can book a ticket for them at the standard child fare in the usual way.
Storing a pram, push chair or buggy onboard
There is space available for prams on our trains, we recommend folding them up if you can before boarding for ease and to help us avoid delays. You can store your prams in the storage racks which are located at the end of each carriage. If the storage racks are full you can put them in wheelchair spaces that are empty however if a mobility impaired requires that space you will need to find alternative storage for your pram. If you are struggling to find space please alert a member of our team and they will be happy to help.
How do I know if the service is busy?
If you are wanting to travel at a quieter time we recommend booking onto one of our off-peak services. You can find further information on our dedicated off peak page. We also produce a weekly report showing which services have the most reservations on them. This is located on our best service for you page.
Baby changing facilities and accessible toilets
Our baby changing facilities and accessible toilets are located in coach F. If you require any assistance please contact a member of staff onboard our service.
Please feel free to breastfeed whilst onboard our services, if you'd like a little privacy while you feed your little one, just ask a member of staff onboard the train.
Toilets are located at the end of each of our carriages, please take a closer look at our seating plan to see which toilet is closest to you. If you are looking for information on station facilities, you can search for your station on the National Rail Enquiries site to see what is is available.
