What can I take on the train?

Travelling by train offers a convenient, enjoyable way to explore the UK whether you're commuting for work, heading for a relaxing holiday, or visiting family and friends. At Grand Central, we strive to make your journey as smooth and comfortable as possible. To help with this, here’s a comprehensive guide on what you can bring on board.

 

Can I bring bicycles on board?

Yes! You can bring bicycles on Grand Central trains; we understand that cycling is a great way to continue your journey once you reach your destination and we encourage you to do so. 

 

However, space for bicycles is limited and must be reserved in advance. You can reserve a bicycle space free of charge when booking your ticket online, by phone, or at the station.

 

Can I bring prams and wheelchairs on board?

Prams, wheelchairs, mobility scooters, and pushchairs are welcome on our trains and we even have designated spaces for them.  

These spaces are available on a first-come, first-served basis. For the comfort of all passengers, please ensure that prams are folded and stored safely whilst not in use.

 

Our designated wheelchair and mobility scooter spaces are located in the following coaches:

- Coach F (Standard)

- Coach E (First Class)

 

Our trains can accommodate wheelchairs and mobility scooters within the following dimensions: 

- 70cm wide 

- 120cm in length

- 300kg maximum weight including passenger

 

Are dogs allowed on trains?

Your four-legged friends are allowed on Grand Central trains, with a few restrictions. You can bring up to two pets free of charge, provided they are kept on a lead or in a pet carrier and they must not occupy seats or cause inconvenience to other passengers. 

 

Can I bring e-scooters on board?

For safety reasons and following current regulations, privately owned e-scooters and e-unicycles are not permitted on Grand Central trains.

 

How much luggage can I take on the train?

Per the National Rail Conditions of Travel, each passenger is allowed to bring up to three pieces of luggage on board, these include:

- 1 x suitcase (up to 30x70x90cm)

- 1 x small carry-on bag 

- 1 x handbag 

 

Luggage that is not permitted

For the safety and comfort of all passengers, certain items are not allowed on our trains, such as:

- Hazardous materials (e.g., flammable liquids, explosives)

- Oversized luggage that cannot be safely stored

- Unsecured large objects that may cause injury or obstruction

 

Additional luggage charges

While there is no charge for the standard luggage allowance, additional or oversized items may incur a fee. These charges can be paid at the station before boarding.

Where to put luggage on the train in the UK

On board Grand Central trains, luggage storage areas are readily available at the end of each carriage and above the seats. Please use these designated areas to keep aisles clear and ensure a safe environment for all passengers. 

 

Smaller items can be stored under your seat or in the overhead racks.

 

Lost items on the train

If you lose an item on one of our trains, please contact our Lost Property Office as soon as possible; this team is dedicated to reuniting passengers with their lost belongings. 

 

Provide a detailed description of the lost item and your travel details to help us locate it as quickly as possible.

 

Can I bring my own food and drink on the train?

Yes, you can bring your own refreshments on board a Grand Central train. You could also take advantage on our Journey Central service, which allows you to order food and drink directly to your seat. 

 

Can I drink alcohol on the train?

You are permitted to drink alcoholic drinks on Grand Central trains, which can be purchased through out digital Journey Central platform. 

 

Please be advised that we also run dry trains which don’t permit alcoholic drinks on board.
