"We get a lot of feedback from the passengers"

Andrew Whitmore from Ingleby Barwick works as a station coordinator for Grand Central, after getting involved in 2019. A keen rail traveller, he’s also a volunteer at the National Railway Museum in York.

Being an ambassador is, says Andrew, “a great role. We make sure everything’s ok and that there’s no litter. We meet and greet the passengers, check tickets and reservations and show them where to go.”

For Grand Central the ambassadors provide a great customer service barometer. “We make sure we get feedback from the passengers – and we get a lot of it,” says Andrew, “so we know if anything’s important. It means they’ll come back again.”
