- Disruption between Peterborough and Stevenage expected until 18:45
A trespass incident between Peterborough and Stevenage means that trains must run at a reduced speed on all lines. As a result, services between these stations may be delayed by up to 30 minutes.
Disruption is expected until 18:45.
Great Northern and Thameslink customer advice:
A trespass incident has been reported in the St Neots area.
As soon as trespassing is known about, the speed of trains in the area is reduced, as it's not safe to run services at their usual speeds when someone is on the track. Sometimes, trains need to stop entirely. Emergency services and Network Rail responders will be attending to make sure the person is removed.
Trespassing on the railway is very dangerous. Trains run all day, every day - whether passenger trains, freight trains or specialist engineering work machines. It's not possible to be sure that you can hear when a train is coming, and in many cases, you won't see a train until it is very close to you.
There are also electrical systems and cables, slippery surfaces, steep drops and other hazards.
Network Rail manage the railway infrastructure, and they're working hard to educate everyone about these dangers and prevent people from accessing the track. You can see their latest safety campaigns here.
As well as the dangers, trespassing on the railway is also illegal, and obstructing the railway can carry severe penalties.

Can you tell me more about the incident?
A points failure has been reported, and this is preventing trains from travelling on this route.
Points are moveable sections of track which can send trains onto different routes at junctions. These are part of the signalling system, generally managed by Network Rail.
Points can stop moving correctly for a number of reasons. For example, there may be an obstruction in the moving parts, or the electronic control systems may have developed a fault.
There are various backup systems which allow signallers to try to "set" the points, and in some cases, the points may be available for trains in one of the directions they serve, but not another. However, with more severe failures like this one, the route is blocked entirely.
Network Rail have sent their specialist Signalling & Telecoms teams to site as a priority, and they will set up a safe method of working on the track. As soon as it's safe to go on the line, they will diagnose the fault and find any quick solutions to resolve it.
Whilst this is being done, teams will be monitoring progress closely. At times, replacement parts may be needed, or specialist advice from suppliers, which is why some points failures take longer to resolve than others.
